Lidia and I hiked up Silver Star today. Silver Star is close to home so it's a great go-to climb when we don't want to drive very far. The majority of the trail is very rocky... almost like walking in a riverbed. Going up is one thing but coming down on those rocks requires some attention. The 360 views at the top are awesome and worth all of the effort put into getting up and down this mountain.
We started the hike in the fog and ended the hike in the fog. It was cold and a little drizzly in the beginning. We eventually climbed up above the clouds into the sunshine but our coats were removed within the first 100 yards of the trail - it's a steep uphill right from the start. At the top, above the clouds, it was like we were in a different world. The cloud layer below us made it magical.
We stayed up at the top soaking in the beauty and sunshine for an hour and a half. I could have stayed there all day - it was just that perfect.
We could see Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainier, the Goat Rocks Wilderness area, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood. Amazing views....
